On April 2nd, 2005, an entourage of 16 walked into SEVEN VALLEYS FINE FOOD & DELI,
surprising owners Shahrokh & Nahid Golestani with the announcement that their
establishment had been chosen 'Best-of-the-Bunch'.
Once again, we chose a small family-operated establishment and although Seven Valleys is not a new business, we felt it was so unique that it deserved recognition. Both Golestani’s greet customers with a warm smile and are quick to answer questions about their stock of imported ethnic and exotic foods from Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries, as well as a variety of Kosher and Halal products.
Shah told us that when they moved to Victoria from Iran nine years ago, there weren’t any food stores specializing in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean products so he and his wife opened Seven Valleys two years later. Their customers include people who may not live in peace together in other countries but shop together in peace in Seven Valleys.
Seven Valleys features an array of spices and herbs you may not find anywhere else in Victoria. They also sell canned and jarred delicacies, specialty breads, 5 different kinds of feta cheeses, pastries (including several Baklava choices), candies, chocolate, and even beauty products like henna for body painting.
Did you know that very little, if any, pesticides are used in the Middle East because of the cost and because they do not grow crops in mass quantities like we do in the North America? We could easily have spent the rest of the day asking questions about all the wonderful products! Nahid said that visitors are welcome to browse through the Persian recipe book on the shelf and copy any information they want.
