On March 5th, 2005, 27 people walked into THE BLUE CARROT CAFÉ, surprising owner Marisa Oakes with the announcement that her café had been chosen the 'Best of the Bunch' for March. Marisa was almost moved to tears.

The Blue Carrot Café is a small family-operated establishment that opened August, 2004. Mom Marisa was posed to return to school when the café came on the market. After a life-long career in the food industry, she decided that her love of people and food made purchasing the café the right choice.
The Blue Carrot features Marisa’s trademark warmth, delightful smile and delicious wholesome home cooking. Everyone raved about the food whether they had homemade soup, wraps, sandwiches or salad. The muffins were yummy and the carrot cake "THE best ever!", according to one participant. They also serve breakfast until 11:30am.
Thirteen-year-old daughter Carey calmly handled the food orders and cash. Marisa's 10-year-old identical twins often help out. On Saturday, Jeremy did a great job of delivering food to the tables in the absence of his brother Elliot who'd gone rock-climbing. Marisa's husband Cecil is sometimes on the scene(be sure to check out his high-relief canvases adorning the walls) & during our visit, he & Grandpa Charles pitched in to help out with the crowd.
With soft jazz playing in the background, and magazines and newspapers provided for reading, there’s an intimate relaxed atmosphere amongst the small tables that are conducive to striking up conversations with friendly strangers. A few tables are also available outside.
